LONDON — According to data from industry analysts CAP and The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, more cars than ever are being sold in the UK with DAB as standard equipment, growing to 92.4% of new cars sold in the last three months. 2.2 million new cars with DAB have been sold in the last 12 months.
In Q1 2018, the figure was 90%, having increased from 86.8% in Q2 2017. In May 92.9% new cars came with DAB as standard equipment, a record high, according to a516digital.com.
According to Rajar Q1 2018 data, 23.7% of all radio listening takes place in car. Vehicle manufacturers made the decision to outfit digital radio in new cars in response to the increasing popularity of digital radio and the expansion of the DAB transmitter network that now covers more of the major road network in the UK.
In Italy, the total number of digital radio receivers in use rose to 3.7 million, an increase of 13% compared to previous surveys. Over 10 million Italian adults (14+) are aware of the technology, according to research provided to DAB Italia by GFK Italia, reports digitalradio.it.
DAB+ is available in every Italian region and on more than 5,000 km of highways. DAB Italy is planning to further extend the coverage area and to test, by the end of 2018, the tunnel service to meet the needs of all drivers.
