Eirewave Takes RCS and Sound4 Offerings to the Air

The U.K. DAB+ station features British and Irish pop-rock

From the Radio World “Who’s Buying What” page: In the United Kingdom, radio station Eirewave is now using Zetta for automation from RCS and audio processing from Sound4.

The station’s format is British and Irish pop-rock. Its DAB+ transmitters are located in Belfast and Derry in Northern Ireland and Manchester in England.

Eirewave also uses GSelector for music scheduling. The station said using the two RCS tools together will help advance its technology.

Eirewave founder Olivier Eire said the station is using Sound4’s Impact audio processor for general processing and Sound4’s Big Voice for voice processing. As a DAB+ station, he said it seeks a “transparent and dynamic audio profile” rather than aggressive compression that might be found on FM. He said the station’s mission is to preserve the original sound of its music.

“Audio processing today shouldn’t be done the same way it was 10 or 20 years ago — the market has changed,” Alain Dupré, Eirewave’s sound engineer, said in a release.

Dupré said he was inspired by Keith Richards’ autobiography, “Life,” when it comes to audio processing. In the book, Richards said that rock is all about the guitars first. “That philosophy guided my approach — ensuring that the essence of the music, especially the power and texture of the guitars, remains intact while achieving a balanced and cohesive station sound,” Dupré said.

Eirewave was founded in 2022. It operates as a commercial-free station.
