KCRW, WBGO and KUT Adopt SoundStack’s Streaming Service

Coast-to-coast radio stations use the platform to expand their reach

From Radio World’s Who’s Buying What page: SoundStack is highlighting the use of its audio-as-a-service (AaaS) platform to assist several historic radio stations with their streaming efforts.

The company reports that KCRW(FM) in Los Angeles, WBGO(FM) in Newark and KUT(FM) in Austin, as well its full-time music service KUTX, will deliver their live streams to listeners via the SoundStack platform.

“SoundStack Hosting and Delivery is built to make it easier for all kinds of audio publishers to ensure seamless listening experiences for their massive, loyal audiences,” wrote SoundStack in a press release. “The functionality is rooted in SoundStack Engine, a content delivery network (CDN) featuring real-time, global audio orchestration with nine global points of presence and an array of automation for simple streaming management.”

SoundStack said some of the stations will also use the company’s SoundStack “Insights” tool, which includes historical/real-time listening data, heat mapping of listenership around the world and streaming trends to monitor performance.

“KUT’s streaming audience is only getting bigger and broader. Working with SoundStack helps us reliably reach far beyond our market,” said Todd Callahan, technology director of KUT/KUTX, in the release. “The redundancy we added with SoundStack’s CDN ensures our daily news show, the Texas Standard, can be heard coast-to-coast, and delivers KUTX’s ‘Austin Music Experience’ worldwide.

Callahan said real-time streaming data from Insights is the KUT program director’s “dashboard favorite.”

SoundStack’s CEO Jon Stephenson said he is proud to help facilitate the streaming efforts of some of the most iconic public radio stations.

“Everyone knows what a unique and critical role public radio plays in everyone’s lives,” said Stephenson in the release. “I’m proud that these stations have entrusted us to ensure that their amazing programming continues to enrich so many people’s lives.”
