The Society of Broadcast Engineers announced a dues and fees increase for most of its programs and member services.
SBE said it’s the first time in eight years that it has needed to raise its rates. Its board of directors and finance committee made the determination, citing the increase of prices following the pandemic.

An SBE representative noted that most of the increases are still below the rates of inflation since 2018. Its youth membership is not part of the increase.
The hike in rates is effective immediately. Here is a look at its new price structure:
Level | Old Amount | Increase | New Amount | % Increase |
Membership | $85 | $20 | $105 | 24% |
Membership with MemberPlus | $175 | $40 | $215 | 23% |
Student | $25 | $10 | $35 | 40% |
Youth | $10 | $0 | $10 | 0% |
Life | $85 | $20 | $105 | 24% |
TPT | $475 | $70 | $545 | 15% |
MemberPlus only | $90 | $20 | $110 | 22% |
“While no one likes having to pay more for something, the reality is that everything has increased in cost,” Ted Hand, SBE president, said in a release. “We’ve done our best at the SBE to avoid a dues increase, but we’re operating as efficiently as we can.”
The society said it expects the increase to cover operating expenses for the next several years.
