The NAB announced its annual Crystal Radio Awards will be presented at the NAB State Leadership Conference on March 4 in Washington, D.C.
This is a change from its previous award ceremonies that have taken place at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. The NAB said they’ll be taking place instead at a special ceremony during the March leadership conference. NAB did not provide a reason for the change in a release regarding the awards. Radio World has requested comment.
Each year since 1987, the Crystal awards have recognized NAB member stations for a commitment to serving their communities. A panel of judges select 50 finalists and from there, narrow down 10 winners.
Last year’s recipients were KFI(AM) Los Angeles, Calif; KKBQ(FM) Houston, Texas; KMVP(FM) Phoenix, Ariz.; KNDE(FM) College Station, Texas; KSL(FM) Salt Lake City, Utah; WBZZ(FM) Pittsburgh, Pa.; WHPT(FM) Tampa Bay, Fla.; WJJY(FM) Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn.; WLBC(FM) Muncie, Ind.; and WNRP(AM) Pensacola, Fla.
NAB also presented Hubbard Broadcasting’s KSTP(FM) in Minneapolis-St. Paul with the Crystal Heritage Award, recognizing the station for winning five Crystals.
Stations can submit an entry describing their community service efforts for the 2024 calendar year for consideration Jan. 1–24. This can be done via NAB’s member platform, My NAB. Finalists will be announced in February.
