NATE Releases Environmental & Regulatory Guidance to Contractors

For broadcasters, this includes abiding regulations specific to new tower builds

NATE has published a new document outlining environmental and regulatory compliance to telecom contractors.

It is available as a free download on NATE’s website.

The document is aimed at companies that “may not have the resources or knowledge to ensure complete evaluation and compliance,” according to a NATE release. This includes wireless internet service providers, smaller tower developers and contractor firms.

The guide is divided into two categories: Hazardous Materials & Contamination and National Environmental Policy Act Issues.

The first section covers environmental risks at job sites, including hazardous materials, endangered species and historic site regulations.

The second section goes into detail with regard to verifying NEPA compliance before commencing projects. For broadcasters, this includes abiding regulations from the FCC, NTIA and state and local laws for new tower builds, fiber deployments and modifications.

The guide also covers OSHA and EPA regulations on handling lead, asbestos and hazardous waste.

“By being aware of the potential environmental issues that companies may encounter on any given project, they will be able to assist their clients in ensuring that a project runs smoothly, while at the same time, limiting the company’s exposure and liability,” David Jermakian, president of Dynamic Environmental Associates, a NATE member company, said in the release.
