Letter: Break Out Those Ammeters

Let's talk about AM interference in electric vehicles

In this letter to the editor, the author responds to the recently-published commentary “A Threat Even Bigger Than No Car Radio.” Comment on this or any article. Email radioworld@futurenet.com.

Hello,

I just read a response from Jeremy Burnham about the lack of interference he experienced in a electric car made by Chrysler. He says he is able to receive AM broadcast radio fine in his car. OK, maybe there is a urban myth being spread by car manufacturers, but I think someone should follow up with what kind of filter Chrysler is using to reduce AM receiver noise in their electric cars.

I had a laugh with the claim that AM radio receivers drain the batteries of electric vehicles. Is someone leaving their car radio on all night? I agree with Mr. Burnham with his points. The claims made in the article Mr. Burnham complained about should be challenged.

Break out those ammeters!
