I tend to not know about new music because I do not listen to the new music stations, so I do not buy new music as a general rule. If I hear something that I like then I try to get it. Thank the radio station that played the song for my consideration or thank iTunes music store for giving away a song every week that I might have liked so I bought the music of that musician. |

This cost will be passed on to the listening public, of which I am a member. Radio is doing a great favor to musicians by playing their music, which generates attention and spurs interest by consumers, who then buy a CD, or download a tune or pay for concert tickets. It seems to me that musicians want their cake and want to eat it, too. Consumers will be left hungry. |

I think the most understated thing by the music folks is that we as broadcasters DO pay out the nose for music royalities! Maybe composers get more than they should. So far, that's where the money (along with the bosses of ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, etc!) is all headed from radio play. Radio is simply unable to afford any more music tax. If the performers feel they need some money for playing stuff on radio, go get some from the composers. Radio is barely hanging on in many markets as it is. Adding more costs to music radio will just mean less music radio. In the case of your music style, understand that most smooth jazz stations are barely making it as it is. How will heaping more tax on those remaining stations affect you? Yes... You will have less outlets to introduce audiences to your new music, etc. Actually, it will COST you.
