Ludwig Issued Technology Patent

Ludwig Enterprises is moving forward with plans to build out a national radio network for its new “The One” receiver.

The Pompano Beach, Fla.-based company says it now has a patent for its technology that employs unused digital TV channels, breaking one channel into 50 audio channels. “The One” receiver would actually use an available data portion of the data stream of the ATSC digital television signals.

Ludwig says this underutilized spectrum could be used to build out a national broadcast network that could potentially rival SiriusXM though its unclear whether any regulatory hurdles need to be crossed.

The publicly-traded company has chosen LG Electronics to manufacture “a key component” of the first generation of “The One” radio receiver. Subscribers would need to buy the receiver to hear the programming.

Ludwig’s programming will focus on ethnic, senior and youth markets that it says are not served by commercial radio. The company has not set a launch date.

Why a new different transmission standard? There is a well developed and popular DAB+ transmission system which can use unused US channels 7 - 13 which makes 24 DAB+ transmission channels. Each transmission channel can carry many channels. Also international standardised DRM+ can use US channels 2 - 6 to provide 300 surround sound or pairs of program channels. Alan
