The Georgia Radio Hall of Fame will
recognize the “Three Horsemen” in a ceremony at the hall’s Sixth Annual
Induction Awards Ceremony, Oct. 20, in Macon, Ga.
The Three Horsemen
were Charles Greene, Ray Brown and Hamp Swain. They were popular in Macon in
the late 1950s and into the 1960s at WIBB(AM), a station that switched formats
from country to black, well ahead of the growth in urban formatting.
Greene, Brown and
Swain proved exceedingly popular, hosting live gigs as well. James Brown and
Otis Redding were just two unknowns that were promoted by the Three Horsemen.
Brown recorded songs at the WIBB studios.
Greene passed away
in January but Brown and Swain are expected to attend and receive the Founders
and Directors Award. Greene’s son Khris will accept for his father.
